The Perfectionist - Episode 1

We were invited to a hubby's friend's daughter's birthday party last Saturday. Everyone was excited especially the kids since they were going to have the party at Mc Donald's. After the Zuhur prayers, we prepped the kids with their best party outfits. Both were all ganged up and set to go. Kakak thought the party was going to be at Damansara Damai's Mc D, since that's the only Mc D she knows. So I told her we were driving all the way to Shah Alam section 3 Mc D for the party.

When we got there, most of their family members were already there. It was a closed party with family members and close friends. Adik started to get clingy, seeing so many unfamiliar faces around. Hmm...I guess the adults headcounts exceeded the children's. So everyone got a party pack. Kakak was handing over the present to the birthday girl and was ushered to the table where all the children were seated. She was OK, had her food and imported-from-home bottled water.

Then the drama begins.

The party maestro started calling all the children to the center for games session. So I asked Kakak to go along and join the troop. She was a bit unsure but joined anyway. The party maestro started explaining about the game. It was passing-the-balloons game. When the music started, the group was supposed to pass the balloons to the person on the right. When the music stops, whoever was holding the balloons will be out with a small Mc D token. Simple? NOT.

After the party maestro explained the whole game rules thingy, the kids were all ready to play. Kakak looked a bit worried by that time, probably because she didn't understand what the party maestro was explaining. I bet not every kid understands, but what the heck. They can just pick up along the way. NOT MY DAUGHTER. She looked so tensed, ready to pop out of her party dress, anticipating what was going to happen next. I can tell from the look, her hands must be all stiffed and cold. She looked like a mechanical girl, eyeing the balloons and quickly passing them on to the next person. She didn't even look like she was enjoying the game at all.

The worse thing that could happen was she stayed on until they were the last 2 standing. I asked Hubby to go to Kakak and try to loosen her up a little bit. Having Adik on my lap was not going to offer so much support. And being Hubby, he just shrugged off. And she won! There wasn't a smile on her face. She had a face of relieved. So relieved that the game was over. After taking the prize, she just walked back to our table and started to cry. Tears of joy? NOT. They were tears of relieved. Cold hands.

The second and third game, she didn't even had the heart to join.
